Hula Hoops! Full S.T.E.A.M. Ahead! 

Combine a great physical activity with hoops, fitness, art and learning! In this fun class girls will make their very own hula hoop using the STEAM curriculum that combines math, science and art. From taking the initial measurement to determine the right diameter hoop to assembly and decorating with different colored tapes, while learning color theory and fundamentals of weaving. Of course, don’t forget the fitness component! At the end of the session we will hoop with our new creations. Girls will get a great workout without even realizing they are working hard, because they will be having so much fun!

Fee includes activity and all materials to create a colorful weighted fitness hula hoop to take home. *Adult chaperones pay only the materials fee. *Adult fee may be waived if adult does not want her own hoop.

Open to troops, individual girls, and girls with an adult.

Synch & Swim

Jump in the swimming pool, and learn the basics of synchronized swimming! The YWCA’s Synchro-maids will lead this fun workshop that combines swimming, dance and acrobatics with music and teamwork! During this two-hour workshop, girls will learn synchro skills including propulsion, ballet legs, somersaults and more. After learning skills, girls will learn and perform a routine set to music. Lastly, there will be time for free swim with their friends. Participants should be comfortable getting their face wet and able to swim across the pool, with or with out a float belt. Float belts will be provided for those who wish.

This program is geared toward Junior and Cadette Girl Scouts in Grades 4-8.

Open to troops, individuals, and girls with an adult.

Synchro-maids Show

Watch the Synchro-maids, the YWCA’s competitive synchronized swim team, perform routines to music at their annual Water Show. The show runs approximately 60 minutes, followed by a “meet-and-greet,” where girls and adults can ask questions and learn more about the sport of synchronized swimming.

Open to all ages Girl Scout troops and with an adult.

Olympic Day

Olympic Day is a worldwide celebration held on June 23 every year. People from all walks of life, in every nation, male and female, young and old, celebrate the Olympic Movement. In celebration of Olympic Day 2016 the YWCA of Central MA is proud to invite youth and teens ages 7-16 to a showcase of some of the YWCA’s popular sport fitness programs. Jump in the swimming pool to try synchronized swimming, swim team and open swim. Join us in the gym for a variety of sports and fitness activities. Troops and individuals are welcome; girls under 13 years must have a responsible adult in the building throughout the event.

Open to troops and girls with an adult.
